Red Apple Balsamic Cabbage

It’s time to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a little RED side dish! (We know that Red is the perfect compliment to green right)? This dish will the perfect homemade side dish at your St. Patrick’s Day party!

Yield: Makes 4 to 6 (side dish) servings

Ingredients

  • 1 garlic clove, smashed
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 lb red cabbage, cored and cut into 1 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 Gala or Fuji apple, cored and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1/2 cup unfiltered apple cider
  • 1 Tablespoon Taste of Oils Red Apple Balsamic
  • 1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 2 whole allspice (optional), crushed
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons apple-cider vinegar

Preparation

  1. Cook garlic in butter in a 12-inch heavy skillet over medium heat, stirring, 1 minute. Add cabbage, Red Apple Balsamic, apple, cider, caraway, allspice (if using), 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper and cook, covered, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender, 15 to 18 minutes.
  2. Add vinegar and cook, uncovered, stirring occasionally, until liquid has evaporated, 2 to 3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
